Aviation fuel

Aviation jet fuel is all about quality and safety, fuel requirements for aircraft and vehicles are typically different, therefore there’s strict quality and safety requirements of aircraft and limitations on components that can be used for aviation fuel.

Aviation kerosene

Is a specialized type of petroleum-based fuel used to power aircraft. It is generally of a higher quality than fuels used in less critical applications, such as heating or road transport, and often contains additives to reduce the risk of icing or explosion due to high temperature, among other properties.

49 °C

Jet fuel is a clear to straw-colored fuel, based on either an unleaded kerosene (Jet A-1), or a naphtha-kerosene blend (Jet B). Similar to diesel fuel, it can be used in either compression ignition engines or turbine engines.

Kerosene-based fuel has a much higher flash point than gasoline-based fuel, meaning that it requires significantly higher temperature to ignite. Jet-A powers modern commercial airliners and is a mix of pure kerosene and burns at temperatures at or above 49 °C

Jet A

Types

Jet A-1 is the standard specification fuel used in the rest of the World other than the former Soviet states, where TS-1 is the most common standard. Both Jet A and Jet A-1 have a flash point higher than 38 °C (100 °F), with an auto ignition temperature of 210 °C ( 410 °F)

Differences Between JET A and JET A-1

The primary difference is the lower freezing point of A-1;

Jet A -40 °C

Jet A-1 -47 °C

Certification

ASTM D910 / ASTM D6227

The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standard specifications for aviation kerosene.

Energy Content

The net energy content for aviation fuels depends on their composition.

Some typical values are:

  • Avgas 80, 55.65 MJ/Kg, density at 15 °C is 690 kg/m3.
  • Kerosene type Jet A-1, 43.15 MJ/Kg, density at 15 °C is 804 kg/m3.
  • Kerosene type Jet TS-1 (for lower temperatures), 43.2 MJ/kg.

Density

In performance calculations, airline manufacturers uses a density of Jet fuel around 6.7 lb/US gal or 0.8 kg/l.

Chemical Composition

Aviation fuels consist of blends of over two thousand chemicals, primarily hydrocarbons (paraffinn, olefins, naphthenes and aromatics)

PJSC Sakhavostokneftegaz, aim is to meet and exceed stringent refining of all components and strictly observes the operating parameters, that’s why our aviation fuel gives high performance to piston-engine aircraft and thereby significantly improving safety and ensures comfort with every flight.

The highest quality of aviation fuels compounds are achieved through multiple refining processes of crude oil, which is then mixed into a distinctive compositions in accordance of manufacturing strict specifications.

Aviation refining

PJSC Sakhavostokneftegaz uses additives authorized for aviation productions, which including: anti-knock agents, colourants, antioxidants & anti-electrostatic agents that enrich the hydrocarbon mixtures and ensure that the required properties/elements are formed.

Jet fuel or aviation kerosene TS-1 is made from crude oil fractions by direct distillation. The resulting product is a mixture of volatile hydrocarbons boiling mixed compositions from 150 to 250 degrees. This type of fuel are commonly used for jet combustion engines.

Our refining plants are supported by our own accredited laboratories and experienced research and development scientists. The company offers a 24 months guarantee for our types Jet fuel grades.

The company are active member of European collaborative projects, ambitiously seeking a new formula for aviation fuel. Participation in projects provides assurance that PJSC Sakha will continue to provide the best Jet fuel for your aircraft not just today, but also for the future.

Quality control

PJSC Sakhavostokneftegaz monitors our Jet fuel quality at all stages in refining and production, process of receiving, storing, preparing for delivery for refueling aircraft.

On the basis of the enterprise there is a certified laboratory equipped with modern equipment specifically designed for quality control of Jet fuel.

Our qualified personnel quickly and reliably conducts all the necessary operations at the stages of the movement of the finished product from reception from tank trucks to delivery to the aircraft. This allow us to guarantee the product retains its high quality of the product and services we provided.

The main tasks of the laboratory are:

  • Quality control of aviation fuel and lubricants at the stages of aviation fuel supply for air transportation;
  • Quality control of aviation fuel and lubricants working in aviation systems, assessment of the possibility of their further use;
  • Quality control of aviation fuel and lubricants selected in connection with the investigation of aircraft accidents and incidents with civil aircraft.

Aviation fuel supply

PJSC Sakhavostokneftegaz provides a full range of services for providing aircraft with fuel at selected airports in Russia, as well as for the storage and sale of aviation fuel and lubricants.

Modern equipment and refueling technologies, as well as the availability of qualified personnel allow PJSC Sakhavostokneftegaz aviation team to guarantee the quality of the services provided at competitive prices.

The company sells only high-quality fuel and lubricants that meet international standards.
